Covering an old tattoo is one of the toughest jobs in the craft because the artist must work with what is already in the skin while still creating something new that looks intentional and clean. Old lines can show through, dark patches can overpower fresh ink, and distorted shapes can shift the entire design plan. A skilled artist has to rethink the unwanted tattoo as part of the blueprint, using strategic shading, color saturation, and thoughtful placement to redirect the eye. It is part art, part problem solving, and part illusion, and when it is done well the past does not disappear so much as it is transformed into something stronger.
